From the Board of Trustees
Atty. Wigberto R. Tañada, Jr.
President and Trustee
Greetings Members,
With the successful holding of the annual membership meeting last March 11, 2022, the members of the Board of Trustees who were first elected in a special membership meeting last July 28, 2021, were re-elected to a new full year term, or until March of 2023. For those unfamiliar, this was only the second election conducted since 2013. Members are thus encouraged to be informed about issues facing MHCIPAI and give feedback on how the industrial park can be better managed.
During the March 11th annual membership meeting, then President Quiñones reported on the accomplishments of the Board upon taking office just several months earlier, which included the:
· issuance of a newsletter
· launching of the MHCIPAI website (www.mhcipai .com)
· hiring of full-time professionals to manage the Property Management Office
· increase in toll collection by 40.6%, despite permitting free entry of bicycles
· enhancement of safety and security within the industrial park with the ongoing removal of informal settlers
· free garbage collection from Manila City Hall, resulting in savings of P960,000 per year; and receipt of a donation of used oil drums repurposed into garbage cans situated around the industrial park
· de-clogging of canals, construction of additional canals, installation of manhole covers, repair of sheet piles
A summary of board resolutions adopted between August 2021 to March 2022 was then presented to the body, all of which were ratified. A board resolution of significance granted a one-time amnesty on all unpaid association dues whereby outstanding penalties would no longer be collected on the condition that the dues be paid by April 10, 2022. The resolution was adopted by the Board of Trustees in recognition of the economic burden brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic; and to encourage delinquent members to become members in good standing. The amnesty resulted in a collection of over P31 Million Pesos.
A major resolution likewise unanimously approved by the members present were the proposed amendments to the Articles of Incorporation and By-Laws, copies of which are posted in our website. The strong support for the amendments was a consequence of meetings the Board of Trustees conducted with members in the first quarter of the year. The proposed amendments will come into force and effect upon approval by the Securities and Exchange Commission. We will keep you updated on the developments on this matter.
Following the annual meeting, the members of the Board of Trustees held its organizational meeting where the following officers were elected:
President: WIGBERTO R. TAÑADA, JR.
Vice President: NORBERTO A. QUIÑONES
Treasurer: SHIELA MARY A. AHING
Corporate Secretary: HENRY S. ROJAS
Together with Trustees VENIR T. CUYCO and TERESITA A. CUEVAS, your Board is committed to uphold the principles of transparency, accountability, responsiveness, consensus & equity, with the goal of professionalizing operations at the Manila Harbour Centre Industrial Park. While there are a number of serious issues that need urgent attention, both administratively and operationally, rest assured that these are being addressed by your current Board of Trustees. And with your help, we will be able to transform the Manila Harbour Centre Industrial Park into a safe, secure, and modern industrial park.
Thank you for your continued support and cooperation.
